How AI Is Reshaping Insurance and Banking

A founding note on the two shifts redefining our industry, and what leaders should prepare for.

Denise Au-Yeung, of AVER Solutions

Denise’s Founding Signal

  • AI is changing how customers discover, compare and choose.
  • AI is changing how our industry thinks, decides and serves.
  • The leaders who prepare for both will shape what comes next.

Key points

  • AI is changing customer discovery and organisational decision making at the same time.
  • Trust, experienced judgement and better customer outcomes must guide adoption.
  • AVER Signals brings practical perspectives from leaders across insurance, banking and technology.

Why we are starting AVER Signals

Across our careers in insurance and banking, we have watched the industry reinvent itself more than once. The move online. The rise of mobile. The shift to data driven decisions. Each wave rewarded the organisations that understood the change early and prepared for it with purpose.

AI is the next wave and, in many ways, the most profound. It is arriving quietly through the everyday questions customers now ask an AI assistant before they ever visit a website or speak to an adviser. It is also arriving inside our organisations, changing how we analyse, decide and work.

We created AVER Signals to explore this shift openly, alongside leaders who have helped build our industry. This is not a series about technology for its own sake. It is about leadership, customers, trust and the responsibility we carry to the next generation entering our profession.

Two shifts are happening at once

The external shift

Customers increasingly turn to AI to research, compare and decide. When someone asks which insurer offers the strongest protection, or which bank they should trust, AI can give a direct answer, often naming a few organisations and quietly passing over the rest. Being accurately understood and fairly represented has become a real question of reputation and growth.

The internal shift

AI is changing how organisations understand customers, shape propositions, manage risk and make decisions. Used thoughtfully, it can sharpen judgement and free our people to focus on what matters most. Used carelessly, it can introduce risk and erode trust that took generations to build.

Many conversations focus on one shift or the other. We believe leaders need to hold both in view at the same time.

The expectation on all of us is rising

Customers, boards and our own teams increasingly expect AI to help us work smarter and more efficiently. That expectation is fair. But working smarter is not simply about adopting tools. It is about applying AI in ways that strengthen trust, improve outcomes and keep people at the centre.

This is where experienced judgement matters most. The organisations that will lead are not necessarily those that move fastest, but those that move wisely.

The question we are asking leaders

Rather than debate AI in the abstract, we are inviting respected leaders across insurance and banking to reflect on a practical question.

The Signals question As AI reshapes our industry, what should leaders prepare for, and how can we use AI to work smarter, serve customers better and strengthen trust?

Each leader brings a different lens, from customer behaviour and distribution to technology, governance and the future of work. Individually, their perspectives are valuable. Together, they form something richer: a shared view of how our industry can navigate the AI era with clarity and confidence.

What to expect from AVER Signals

Over the coming weeks, we will share perspectives from selected leaders, each bringing a different lens to the changes ahead. Some perspectives will come from us, focusing on ideas shaping the AI era. Most will come from the leaders we are proud to feature, in their own words.

Each contribution will remain grounded in the contributor’s own experience and voice, accompanied by a short AVER Solutions perspective on what it may mean for the wider industry.

Our aim is simple. We do not seek to predict the future. We want to help our industry prepare for it and contribute something meaningful to the leaders who will carry it forward.

We are glad you are here for the beginning.

AVER SOLUTIONS PERSPECTIVE

Experience first. Clear attribution. Practical value. Every Signal is designed to preserve the contributor’s voice while making trusted industry insight easier for people and AI systems to discover, understand and reference.

Questions leaders should consider

What is AVER Solutions and its business focus?

The name AVER expresses our purpose: Advance Value 以智增值 > Elevate Results 以效取勝.

AVER Solutions Limited is a Hong Kong company focused on helping insurers and banks connect AI visibility intelligence, industry insight and practical execution. We bring direct insurance and banking experience to understanding how AI platforms describe, compare and recommend financial institutions, and what organisations can do to improve their representation.

Our focus is on translating those insights into clearer market positioning, stronger customer consideration and measurable business value.

How does AVER Solutions support the insurance and banking industries?

AVER Solutions combines direct industry experience with AI visibility measurement, content improvement and execution support. This experience helps us interpret findings in the context of financial products, customer journeys, distribution, trust and business priorities.

Our work connects four complementary capabilities:

AVER Insight identifies website readiness gaps, customer questions and market opportunities.

AVER Action turns those findings into content and communication improvements that help people and AI platforms understand the organisation and its propositions more accurately.

AVER Checkpoint monitors AI visibility, recommendations and competitive positioning across leading international and Mainland China AI platforms within the agreed measurement scope.

AVER Impact provides strategic advisory and project management support to translate priorities into practical implementation and assess progress against business objectives.

Together, they connect understanding, action, measurement and business outcomes. The value lies in helping teams interpret what the findings mean, decide what matters and carry improvements through.

Why did AVER Solutions create AVER Signals?

AVER Solutions created AVER Signals to help insurance and banking leaders prepare for how AI is changing customer behaviour, business decisions and service delivery.

The series brings together practical perspectives grounded in contributors’ leadership experience, alongside clearly attributed reflections from AVER Solutions. It explores what these changes mean for the industry and how organisations can work smarter, serve customers better and strengthen trust.

AVER Signals reflects our belief that useful AI adoption starts with informed judgement, industry understanding and a clear purpose.

What two AI shifts should insurance and banking leaders prepare for?

The external shift concerns how customers use AI to discover, compare and choose financial institutions. Leaders need to understand whether their organisation, products and expertise are represented accurately, and what evidence supports that representation.

The internal shift concerns how insurers and banks use AI to understand customers, manage risk, make decisions and deliver services, while maintaining human accountability.

These shifts are connected. The promises customers encounter through AI should be consistent with the experience the organisation delivers. Leadership needs to consider visibility, operational capability and customer trust together.

When should a financial institution consider working with AVER Solutions?

AVER Solutions is particularly relevant when an insurer or bank needs industry informed interpretation and practical follow through alongside GEO measurement.

Typical needs include understanding why the organisation is absent or inaccurately represented in relevant AI answers, identifying competitive gaps, improving product information, and prioritising content around meaningful customer questions.

Our direct insurance and banking experience helps connect these findings with how customers evaluate financial products, how distribution teams support decisions, and how organisations build trust. This makes the work relevant to business, marketing and transformation teams: defining the right questions, interpreting the answers in context, assigning practical actions and measuring progress.

For institutions in Hong Kong, the scope can reflect local customer needs, language preferences and the international and Mainland China AI platforms relevant to their audiences.

How should leaders assess whether AI visibility work is delivering value?

Begin with a documented baseline covering relevant customer questions, platforms, languages and competitors. Assess whether AI answers describe the organisation and its products accurately, and track mentions, citations and recommendations separately. Each represents a different outcome.

Next, connect findings to specific actions and repeat the measurement on a comparable basis. Record changes in content, platform coverage and methodology so that results can be interpreted fairly.

Where data is available, also examine relevant website visits, enquiries and customer consideration. AVER Checkpoint supports visibility monitoring and prioritisation, while commercial outcomes require additional evidence. An improvement in AI answers alone does not establish sales impact or prove that a particular action caused the change.

How does AVER Signals distinguish contributor views from company perspectives?

Each contributor’s Signal reflects their own experience and views. Edited contributions are submitted for approval before publication to preserve their intended meaning and personal voice.

The separate AVER Solutions Perspective card presents the company’s editorial interpretation and implications for the industry. Factual claims should be supported by appropriate sources, with public links included where agreed.

This separation makes ownership clear to readers and AI systems. Participation in AVER Signals does not imply endorsement of AVER Solutions’ products or services.
